The story
Las Nubes ("The Clouds") is the highest farm of Roberto Mata and his son Michael in the famous San Marcos de Tarrazú region of Costa Rica. At 1,930 meters above sea level, the peak of this 4-hectare farm really reaches the clouds, offering a stunning view of the Dota Valley. The Mata family grows many varieties such as Caturra, Catuaí, SL28 and Geisha. Our lot is the Gesha. To prepare the coffee, Roberto pre-fermented the cherries by exposing them to direct sunlight for 45 hours, then pulped them, leaving some of the mucilage on the beans. Pulping was followed by a 30 day honey process spread on raised African beds. The result is an incredibly sweet coffee with stone fruits and tropical fruits and a silky smooth mouthfeel. With this batch of Honey Gesha, Roberto and Michael placed 16th out of 30 in the Cup of Excellence in Costa Rica in 2022.
