The story
Fazenda Salto has been in the Araujo Reis family for generations. Today, the family is led by Dr. Fabio Araujo Reis, a retired physician who lives on the farm full time. This coffee is IMPACT-verified by our partner, that guarantees compliance with environmental, social, and economic best practices, while also driving measurable, positive change in sustainability. Fazenda Salto is also Rainforest Alliance certified. In addition to the coffee plantation, the family maintains 400 hectares of preserved natural forested area. Harvesting is done mechanically with specialized machines. Once harvested, ripe cherry is floated to separate out the unripe ones. The family prefers natural processing, because it uses significantly less water than other methods. By default coffee is laid on patios to dry, but if the weather is uncooperative, they also have 8 rotating driers and 8 static driers to finish the process. 80% of the energy consumption at the farm comes from solar panels that they installed in 2019.
